A poem entitled, ‘Famous,’ by Naomi Shihab Nye caught my attention this past week. It caused me to pause amidst a busy day at the office and it was the last three lines that lingered in my mind. They read:
I want to be famous in the way a pulley is famous,
or a buttonhole, not because it did anything spectacular,
but because it never forgot what it could do.
I have never had aspirations to be ‘famous’ as the world thinks.
My desire has always been to be the best I can be wherever God has placed me.
I’ve been in many situations through the years having done, been, led, stayed, called in all these years of what call life! Yet, I want to be ‘famous’ for taking care of others’ lives so they can live to their fullest potential; hence being a Life Coach.
We sometimes feel we must do more, become more, move more, and _____ more (you fill in the blank for yourself).
You need to know you are amazing with who you are now.
Oh sure, we need to keep working on improving our weaknesses which cause strife or pain to ourselves or others.
Perhaps you are on that journey to learn more or experience more so you can carry out your calling.
Hooray for you!!!!!
However, in general, take a minute to be a happy you, who you are, where you are, despite the difficult circumstances.
If things aren’t perfect, well, so be it.
But you… YOU… can find joy in doing what you have been called to do.
So, what if your face is not on a billboard or on the front of a magazine!
You are called to be the you God made you to be.
You be that buttonhole which doesn’t forget what it has have been made to do.
Where are you now?
Tell me that you are not forgetting what you can do, what you could do, you buttonhole you!
Let me hear about your circumstance[s] in the comments below.
If I can help you see things a bit more clearly, just email me: email@example.com
I’m a dealer in hope.
